@mrsalubriousmacca I can't tell you how many times I've tripped over that damm wire. Someday I may ruin a $199.00 Wii console in the process.

@Niko381 If you only used the one 1.5 volt battery then if should not hurt the LED, depending on the quality of the unit. The TSAL 6400 from Vishay will hand up to 6 volts in the wrong direction and be fine. Before throwing that LED away I would double check your connections. It might not be working because of a lose wire, not because it's blown.

The Wii remote has a high resolution infra-red camera in the front. When it sees the IR LED it plots it's position up or down, left or right X and Y if you will and it reports these back to the Wii or if you're smart a computer over bluetooth communication. View: "Low-cost Multi-touch Interactive White board" hear on YouTube for more information.

griffyboy0 You are correct. My IR source is 4.5 volts with two LEDs, one IR LED and one power indicator. It uses a 22 ohm current limiting resistor. Have I done well?

You really only need 1 LED. I think it has 2 just in case a person stands in front of one of them. Look at ebay item 220522107668 or view other amazing items by user shakespeare1212. By the way my offer is $8.75 shipped anywhere in the US and NONE of your time, unless you count hitting the buy now button and maybe filling in your address as time. If you'd like to buy two, I'll send two for $15.85, not a problem. They are backed with double stick tape to stay firmly whereever you place them.

course you could just lengthen the sensor bar's cord with cheap speaker wire or power it with an old wall wort.
